Role of The School Nurse

The Role of The School Nurse

A cartoon image with a smiling person and the words 'Stay healthy, helpful & calm'.

Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the school nurse provides health care to students and staff, performs health screenings and coordinates referrals to the medical home or private healthcare provider. The school nurse serves  as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment (American Nurses Association & National Association of School Nurses [ANA & NASN], 2011).

Throughout the school year, I will be doing the following:

Vision screenings

Hearing screenings

Scoliosis screenings

Height

Weight

Blood pressure

Lice Checks

Referrals as necessary

Also, I will be performing the following teachings:

Breast Self Exam - 7th Grade

Puberty - 5th and 6th Grade

Any other health related teachings to keep our students healthy.

Thank you.
